In addition to the Inklings, Octolings, and Salmonids, there are a number of Animals that appear in Splatoon.
Birds[]
Birds are usually either perched on the ground or flying through the sky. Those on the ground will fly off when approached by the player. There are 3 specific species of birds in the Splatoon series.
Insects[]
There are 3 types of insects:
Butterflies[]
Butterflies are usually located in Inkopolis Plaza, but can also be found in Octo Valley and Bluefin Depot.
Cicadas[]
Cicadas do not appear in the game, but rather are heard in Flounder Heights during the day.
Crickets[]
Crickets, like cicadas, cannot be seen, but they can be heard, under the following conditions:
- During Splatfests, which take place at night, crickets replace cicadas at Flounder Heights.
- At Camp Triggerfish, crickets can be briefly heard when the player spawns.
Nudibranchs[]
Nudibranchs are a species of animal that do not physically appear in the series, but art of these animals can be found at Museum d' Alfonsino,Inkopolis Square, and Inkblot Art Academy.
Ducks[]
Ducks appear in Splatoon 2, only at Snapper Canal. On each side of the stage, to the right of the spawn point, eight ducklings can be seen following what appears to be a male adult, indicated by its bright green neck feathers. If the player is close enough, quacking sounds can be heard. The ducks do not react to the player’s presence.
Turtles[]
Turtles are mentioned in Splatoon 2's news dialogue for Ancho-V Games, where Pearl states that employees have a room full of baby turtles to cheer them up, implying that turtles could be pets.
Sea Creatures[]
Annie has a clownfish named Moe in her hair who runs the shop Cooler Heads with her. Harmony also has a pet clownfish, but hers is dying of neglect in her hair.
Mammals[]
Although they are mostly extinct, there are a few surviving Mammals that appear in the Splatoon series. There are also some mammals that are only mentioned or appear indirectly.
There are two existing cats, Judd and Li'l Judd, who are the judges for PvP matches.
Dogs also appear, but only indirectly in the Splatfest (Cats vs. Dogs) or in the Splatoon manga.
Humans also appear indirectly, in sunken scrolls and in some dialogue.
Mr. Grizz, AKA Anomaly #03, is the only surviving bear in the world of Splatoon.
Marine Mammals[]
There is also a marine mammal that was referenced in Splatoon 2, which is the narwhal. Beyond the theme of the Unicorns vs Narwhals Splatfest, Marina also states that her landlord is a narwhal. However, since this Splatfest didn’t take place in Japan and was exclusive to Oceania and North America, it is debatable whether what she said should be considered canon or not.
Jellyfish[]
Jellyfish appear almost everywhere, as they appear in Inkopolis Plaza, Inkopolis Square, Splatsville, multiple stages, and even some jellyfish in the Deepsea Metro. Jellyfish are the third most populous living thing, after Inklings and Octolings. Some jellyfish in Splatsville have elongated heads, as opposed to the rounder heads of the jellyfish found in Inkopolis.
Splatsville that does not appear in any other square. These jellyfish have an elongated head unlike the original ones, which have a round one.
