Burst Bombs are a type of sub weapon in Splatoon, Splatoon 2, and Splatoon 3. Its appearance resembles a water balloon rather a bomb, due to it having a water balloon's handling.

Description[]

Burst Bombs appear to be spherical balloons filled with ink that explode on contact. They use less ink than Splat Bombs, and therefore cause less damage. They explode on contact with anything, including opponents and the ground. It takes two to three bombs to splat an enemy. You can use about 2 burst bombs before your ink runs out, but this can be increased with the ink saver (sub).

Quotes[]

Think of these sub weapons as water balloons filled with ink. Although they lack the blast radius of Splat Bombs, Burst Bombs explode on contact. But they inflict very little damage, even when scoring a direct hit. This makes Burst Bombs best suited for spreading ink and applying touch-ups. But unlike Splat Bombs, Burst Bombs consume less ink, allowing you to deploy them with greater frequency. You can toss two or three Burst Bombs in quick succession without depleting your ink tank. This comes in handy when you need to make a quick escape. Toss a few Burst Bombs in the direction of your opponent before swimming to safety.

— Splatoon Prima Guide
A bomb that explodes as soon as it hits anything. The explosion is small and not that powerful, but these bombs can be thrown repeatedly without consuming too much ink.

Tips/Countering[]

  • (Tip) When using against an enemy player, throw two of them and try to at least land one directly on the enemy. OR
    • (Tip) Toss a single Burst Bomb to lower their health, then finish them off with your Primary Weapon
  • (Tip) If the player you’re attacking is trying to retreat, try to throw a Burst Bomb in front of them to slow them down/land a final hit on them.
  • (Tip) Use the burst bomb to make up for a weapons short range
  • (Counter Measure) Both Bomb Defense Up DX and Ink Resistance Up – already valuable utility abilities – provide various measures of protection against Burst Bombs. Just three ability points, or one sub, of each ability offer good utility
    • (Counter Measure) Bomb Defense Up DX reduces the amount of damage taken from both direct hits and splash damage by Burst Bombs.
    • (Counter Measure) Ink Resistance Up not only partially offsets the reduction in mobility but also delays the passive damage taken from opposing ink resulting from being hit by a Burst Bomb.
