— C.Q. Cumber, about to splat Agent 8.
|
C.Q. Cumbers can be found throughout the Deepsea Metro. C.Q. Cumbers are blue sea cucumbers, and each wear a hat. C.Q. Cumbers look out for everyone that rides the subway, and are always seen somewhere at each station when Agent 8 prepares to attempt one of the tests located around the subway, offering advice to Agent 8 before they pass through the “turnstile” to take the test.
Personality[]
As conductor for the Deepsea Metro subway, C.Q. Cumbers are always around to offer advice to Agent 8, showing they are willing to be helpful to those that take the tests at each station. However, C.Q. Cumbers take any failure of a test very seriously. Before each test, after Agent 8 equips their gear, a small, rolled-up bag is also attached to the bottom of their ink tank. This is actually a deadly, inflatable ink bomb that the C.Q. Cumber can remotely detonate if Agent 8 violates any of the rules of a test, such as taking the smallest amount of damage when they were not supposed to, instantly splatting them, regardless of any armor at the time, so care has to be taken to ensure a test is successful and the condition(s) are followed without incurring C.Q. Cumber punishing Agent 8 for messing up with an automatic splatting.

At each station, a C.Q. Cumber instructs Agent 8–and, thus, the player–of the objective, the hazards, and requirements of the upcoming test. If Agent 8 does something that either fails the test's requirements or precludes the possibility of completing the objective (e.g. causing an 8-Ball to fall off of the stage), then C.Q. Cumber informs Agent 8 of this before declaring the test failed.
Following the defeat of the final boss, the C.Q. Cumber on the train mentions that Kamabo Co. has ceased to exist. Despite this, he assures Agent 8 that the Deepsea Metro is still running, allowing Agent 8 to complete any tests that they missed.

Trivia[]
- The name “C.Q. Cumber” is a pun on their species name, "sea cucumber."
- Despite being an employee of Kamabo Corporation and, by extension, the Telephone, Hisashi Nogami has stated that C.Q. Cumbers are "not bad guys", only "faithful to their duties."
- The hat that each one wears can be obtained from Iso Padre after earning all of the Mem Cakes.
- There are at least 82 C.Q. Cumbers, assuming that there is at least one for each station and the train, but there could be thousands.
