The Flipper-Flopper is a Boss Salmonid in Splatoon 3’s Salmon Run: The Next Wave. The enemy was introduced in the Nintendo Direct on February 9th, 2022.
Appearance[]
The Flipper-Flopper is a large Boss Salmonid that resembles a giant dolphin. It wears a metal mask with glowing orange- yellow eyes and a gas mask-like front, which according to the Grizzco Industries employee manual is meant to make it more closely resemble a dolphin, which it is implied to idolize.
Behavior[]
The Flipper-Flopper leaps into the air like a dolphin when attacking Grizzco egg collectors, shooting a large ring of ink from its mouth that operates like a Splat Zone once on the ground, instantly filling the area with its own ink. It stays in the air above this ring for a few seconds, appearing to look around, then dives down into the circle, splatting anybody within it unless it has been filled with their ink, in which case it hits the ground hard, breaking its mask and leaving it vulnerable.
Strategy[]
When the Flipper-Flopper creates its ring, the player must cover the Splat Zone-like circle with their own ink color before the Flipper-Flopper dives. If successful, the Flipper-Flopper hits the ground hard, breaking its mask, and then flops helplessly, completely vulnerable and thus an easy splat. However, if the player does not splat Flipper-Flopper in time, it will sink into the ground and attack again until the player defeats it.
Prior to version 1.2.0, a player could survive its attack by jumping in kid form.
