Octoseekers are enemies in Splatoon 2. When the light in front of it shines on the player, it will move towards them and attempt to stomp down on and crush the Inkling. While it is on the ground, the player can ink the side and climb on top of it. The player cannot climb up the front, however, because the cockpit window is made of glass, an uninkable surface.

Description[]

The Octoseeker is a helicopter created by the Octarians for reconnaissance and attack. It is piloted by a (presumably elite) Twintacle Octotrooper, which uses a joystick to move the craft and a button to raise and lower it. The front contains a window for the Twintacle to see out, which is uninkable (glass); the front also contains a searchlight, presumably for the operator to see in the darkness (see this article to find out why). The back contains a door and an A/C unit, presumably to keep the pilot comfortable.

Attack Behavior[]

Octoseekers are flying enemies and patrol around an area, raining down ink. If they spot the player, they try to fly directly above them before falling down to crush them. They then stay on the ground for a while, letting the player climb up on top of them. They look and behave similarly to the Octostomp. The machine is shaped like a square with 4 propellers on each vertex. On the bottom there is an Octostomp face that spots players.

Strategy[]

  • In each area there are some goodies (Armor, food ticket, etc.), so the player should coerce the Octoseeker to stamp down by deliberately getting spotted. Then, the player should climb up the Octoseeker.
  • The Octoseeker's stamp attack does over sixteen times the amount of damage that it takes to splat an Inkling.

Trivia[]

  • It seems that the most elite Twintacles are selected to operate these helicopters. However, the Deluxe Twintacle Octotroopers have darker tentacles, while the Octoseeker pilots retain the lighter tentacles (Similar to the seaweed on some octolings). The reason for this is unknown.
  • The bottom of an Octoseeker resembles the Octostomp's face.
    • When it stomps down, it leaves an imprint of the Octostomp's face in ink.
  • The Octoseeker is the rarest enemy in the entire game, with only seven appearances overall, six in the main game and just one in the Octo Expansion.
    • The reason for this is unknown, though it could be because the Octoseeker runs on a lot of Power Eggs.
  • When swimming in ink below or just plainly below, the Octoseeker still wonā€™t see you as itā€™s controlled by a Twintacle Octotrooper.
    • Players should also keep in mind that the Octoseekerā€™s dripping ink from itā€™s ā€œskinā€ is also damaging and can get in an inked path, slowing swimming agents.
  • Sometimes in levels, Octoseekers are meant to be ā€œstepped onā€ by having them smash the ground and then jumping on top to get to certain places.
  • Not recommended, but players can ā€œherdā€ Octoseekers with bombs to get them to places, just like the Industrial Squee-G.
    • But, as a downside, the Octoseeker going upwards can and will shake off players by accident.
