In the player settings, the player can choose the hairstyles they want for their Inkling in Splatoon and onward, or Octoling in Splatoon 2 and onward.

In Splatoon, the player didn't have a choice for choosing hairstyles, as there was only one per gender option. However, Splatoon 2 gives the player 6 choices per Inkling gender, and 2 per Octoling gender. In Splatoon 3, there are 16 Inkling hairstyles and 8 Octoling hairstyles for the player to choose from: along with this, the player can use both gender's hairstyle's to customize their characters.

The Hippie is a hairstyle seen in Splatoon and onward. It consist of two very long front tentacles, four short back tentacles, and short bangs with a small cut on the right. It is originally the default and only hairstyle for Inkling girls in Splatoon. This hairstyle seems to be the longest in the games.

Topknot[]

The Topknot is a hairstyle seen in Splatoon and onward. It consist of two tentacles located at the top of the Inkling's head pulled through a yellow, green, and brown band, with the remaining four smaller tentacles on the lower back of the head. It is originally the default and only hairstyle for Inkling boys in Splatoon.

The Haircut is a hairstyle seen in Splatoon 2 and onward. It consist of four short tentacles, two at the front and two at the back, two smaller tentacles in between the back tentacles, and short bangs with a small cut on the left. It is originally the default hairstyle for Inkling girls in Splatoon 2. It appears to be a shorter version of the Hippie hairstyle.

The Slick is a hairstyle seen in Splatoon 2 and onward. It consist of six large slicked back tentacles layered over one another, with three in the front and three in the back. It is originally the default hairstyle for Inkling boys in Splatoon 2.

The Double-Bun is a hairstyle seen in Splatoon 2 and onward. It consist of two short tentacles as sideburns and two tentacles being in a bun on the top of the user's head, there are also two tiny tentacles on the back bellow the bun. It is originally one of the six hairstyles for Inkling girls in Splatoon 2.

The Buzz-Cut is a hairstyle seen in Splatoon 2 and onward. The hairstyle has no visible tentacles. Instead, it consist of very short "hair" with a few lines cut through it, revealing the scalp. It is originally one of the six hairstyles for Inkling boys in Splatoon 2.

The Wave is a hairstyle seen in Splatoon 2 and onward. It consist of one long wavy tentacle in the front swept to the right, with five tentacles at the back that seem to shorten in appearance as the back hair goes up in a slanted motion. It is originally one of the six hairstyles for Inkling girls in Splatoon 2.

The Hipster is a hairstyle seen in Splatoon 2 and onward. It consist of one short tentacle in the front swept to the left, three shorter tentacles swept towards further to the left side, shaved on the right side, and two short tentacles tied into a low ponytail at the back. It is originally one of the six hairstyles for Inkling boys in Splatoon 2.

The Pigtail is a hairstyle seen in Splatoon 2 and onward. It consist of two very short tentacles, one on the left and right sides of the face, and the rest of the hair pulled back into sliced-up pigtails, having one on the right and left side of the head. When wearing a certain headgear, the pigtails will turn into a ponytail at the back. It is originally one of the six hairstyles for Inkling girls in Splatoon 2.

The Spiky-Haired is a hairstyle seen in Splatoon 2 and onward. It has no apparent tentacles, but consist of around sixteen small spikes that are located on the top of the head and goes down to above the neck, and the sides of the hair are shaved. It is originally one of the six hairstyles for Inkling boys in Splatoon 2.

The Banger is a hairstyle seen in Splatoon 2 and onward. It consist of blunt bangs that covers the user's eyebrows, two mid-length chopped tentacles in the front, and one wide, medium-length tentacle at the back that is also chopped. It is originally one of the six hairstyles for Inkling girls in Splatoon 2. It appears to be a chopped version of the Hippie hairstyle.

The Mush-Cut is a hairstyle seen in Splatoon 2 and onward. It consist of fluffy bangs covering the eyebrows and around the sides of the head is shaved. It is originally one of the six hairstyles for Inkling boys in Splatoon 2.

The Megalobraid is a hairstyle seen in Splatoon 3. It consist of one very long tentacle on the left, three thin medium-length tentacles tied into a braid, choppy bangs, and two stubby tentacles at the back. It is one of the sixteen hairstyles for Inklings in Splatoon 3. It appears to be an asymmetrical version of the Hippie hairstyle.

The Cornrows is a hairstyle seen in Splatoon 3. It consist of five tentacles pulled and tied back into a low ponytail. The ponytail has the sixth tentacle tying them all together. It is one of the sixteen hairstyles for Inklings in Splatoon 3.

Cornrows seems to be based to look like the actual hairstyle, cornrows, which is a traditional style of braids which the hair is braided very close to the scalp.

Bed Head[]

Bed Head seems to be a frayed, choppy hairstyle that's parted from the right, with two short bangs of equal size closer to the left. The tentacle to [your] right stops at about to bottom of the ear, and the one on the left reaches to about the chin. There's another longer tentacle in the back right that goes down to about the shoulder. Along with this, all the tentacles are dried out on the tips, as if they'd been cooked. The Bedhead originated in Splatoon 3.

The soaked hairstyle is a flat hairstyle that has two tentacles in the front that resemble a bowl-cut. The back has 4 tentacles which seem to be chopped, making it straighter than usual. This hairstyle originated in Splatoon 3.

The Tentacurl is a hairstyle that was introduced in Splatoon 2: Octo Expansion that features a side-part with two long tentacles in the front, the other two resting in the back. It is the default style for female Octolings in Splatoon 2.

The Punk is a hairstyle that was introduced in Splatoon 2: Octo Expansion with an almost entirely shaved head except for a wavy tentacle that rests on top of the head with 3 smaller ones behind. It is the default style for male Octolings in Splatoon 2.

Pony is a hairstyle that was introduced in Splatoon 2: Octo Expansion that features two short tentacles in the front with the rest of the hair being in a short ponytail that rests on top of the head.

Afro is a hairstyle that was introduced in Splatoon 2: Octo Expansion featuring a large blob of hair on top of the head with sideburns. This seems to resemble an octopus’s mantle.

Tentatwists is a hairstyle that was introduced in Splatoon 3 that is a version of the Splatoon 2: Octo Expansion Tentacurls but with tightly coiled ends. One of the twists is bigger and longer then the other one.

Octolocks is a hairstyle that was introduced in Splatoon 3 that was two long tentacles in the front with two shorter tentacles on the back of the head which appear to be partially joined.

Fade is a hairstyle that was introduced in Splatoon 3 that is similar to the Punk from Splatoon 2: Octo Expansion with the four tentacles creating a heart shape on the top of the head, and the rest of the style being shaved in a gradient.

Surfcurl is a hairstyle that was introduced in Splatoon 3 that is similar to the Punk from Splatoon 2: Octo Expansion with the top tentacle being tightly curled instead of wavy.

Trivia[]

  • The first game had only two hairstyles, later named Hippie and Top-Knot, both of which were gender-locked to Male and Female Inklings, respectively.
  • Splatoon 3 is the first game to allow feminine hairstyles on masculine characters, and vice versa.
