Not to be confused with Jelonzo.

This Jellyfish gentleman goes by the name Jelfonzo, and he runs Ye Olde Cloth Shoppe. And check out his origin story: one day he just split off of Jelonzo in Inkopolis Plaza, and there he was! I think that makes him Jelonzo's son? He apparently learned to speak Inkling from an ancient text of some sort, so his speech sounds a bit outdated (to say the least). But don't let that fool you. When it comes to fashion, this dapper dude is always up on the hottest trends.

Jelfonzo is a jellyfish character debuting in Splatoon 2, in which he manages Ye Olde Cloth Shoppe. He speaks using archaic vocabulary, similar to Shakespearean English.

Description[]

According to his origin story, Jelfonzo apparently "split" off of Jelonzo, the jellyfish responsible for running Jelly Fresh located within Booyah Base in Inkopolis Plaza, and therefore could be considered Jelonzo's son. He studied the Inkling language through ancient texts, thus adapting fairly outdated terminology (as demonstrated in the name of Ye Olde Cloth Shoppe). Despite this, he is still up to date with the freshest trends.

Quotes[]

  • "How dost thou?" - When greeting the player

Appearance[]

Jelfonzo's head and arms are a transparent light blue color and the insides are violet purple. His tentacles are the same blue color as the head but has purple on the tips and middle instead. Like other jellies at Inkopolis Plaza, Jelfonzo has attached white eyes with a rhombus shaped black pupil.

Jelfonzo's shirt changes every day the player logs on to Splatoon 2 but on the picture above, he is wearing a white shirt with a black design in the center that resembles what looks like vampire teeth. His tie is black with colored ink splatter patterns on it. The hat is pink with a small metal pin attached to it. On Tuesdays, he wears a shirt with writing that translates to a swear word.

Trivia[]

  • Jelfonzo's Japanese name is "Bizen", and Jelonzo's Japanese name is "Echizen". These two come from the provinces of Ancient Japan.
  • His name is a portmanteau of "jelly[fish]" and "Alfonzo", the latter of which is a Spanish variant of the Gothic language name Alphons, which means "ready noble".
  • The huge Bow Tie he wears is never seen anywhere else.
  • In the middle of his shirt appears to be a image of inkling teeth.
  • Jelfonzo changes his shirt daily, unlike other shopkeepers in Inkopolis square.
  • Jelfonzo, Jelonzo, and Jel La Fleur are the only known jellyfish to speak the language Inklings and Octolings use.
