Pinging Marciale is one of the three random Boss Fights in the Side Order DLC for Splatoon 3. It can appear on 10F or 20F randomly.
Appearance[]
In its first phase, it looks like a ball-shaped clam, with many cylindrical protrusions all around its two sides. It is made of a metallic material, and has a vertical split along its surface. This crack is normally closed with blunt metal teeth, and has two circular faces sticking out parallel to each other on two sides. These faces are jet black, with five teeth and two eyes, which have white sclerae, red irises, and no pupils. During its action where its shell crack opens, its black body is visible, with the occasional eye exposed.
In its second phase, it looks like a smaller version of the first phase, with the main color a slightly darker shade of gray, and the cylindrical protrusions now being tipped with a yellowish color.
In its third and final phase, it becomes significantly smaller. It becomes a white/slightly cream color, with red eyes on the area of its shell adjacent to its mouth. The cylindrical protrusions are now much shallower.
Attacks[]
Its first phase, it jumps and rolls around the stage sporadically, hitting into the bumpers in the corners and center. It spits Splat Bombs out of its mouth periodically. Less often, it spawns Jelletons to help protect it, though the Battering Lentos seem to focus more on knocking it about so it can summon more Jelletons to protect it. Sometimes, it charges up and rolls at the player, with the warning being it becoming in a period of near stasis, becoming uninkable, and starting to visually spin towards the end. However, after it finishes this move, it is forced to open its shell and expose its body for direct attack. It can also use a weaker version of the Killer Wail to attack from its two mouths and two spots on its axis about 90 degrees between its two heads on each side.
Its second phase has the arena littered with more bumpers for it to pinball off of, but its attacks are largely the same. However, if fought on Floor 20, it now steps up its rolling attack with launching a second one shortly after the first one, and drops Suction Bombs in its wake during this move.
Its third and final phase has it now able to shoot eight Killer Wail beams from its two mouths and six spots on its axis in its smaller state, along with possibly doing its rollout move up to three times before it stops and opens its shell to vent. However, it is much more vulnerable now to damage before being destroyed once and for all.
Acquiring Pearl's ability to use her Step-Off Song will disable the Pinging Marciale's ability to spawn Jelletons for a while, making it much more vulnerable.
Trivia[]
- Its name refers to both the fact that it rolls around the stage ("Pinging") and the musical term Marciale, which means "Like a march in rhythm and style".
- Its appearance and style of attack is very similar to and most likely heavily inspired by the Great Octoweapon called the Rampaging Octowhirl.
