The Rainmaker is a weapon in Splatoon, Splatoon 2, and Splatoon 3, which can only be found and used in the Rainmaker Game Mode, which was released on the 15th of August 2015.

Description[]

The Rainmaker works very similarly to the Inkzooka, but it must be charged shortly before being fired and it can be used an infinite number of times. Once charged, the Rainmaker releases a tornado of ink that moves quickly in a straight line.

Use in Rainmaker Mode[]

In the Rainmaker Game Mode, the two teams must reach the Rainmaker (located at the center of the map) and destroy the yellow barrier around it by inking it. This barrier is very similar to the barriers found on Zapfish in Hero Mode. It should be noted that players can be splatted by the barrier if they are nearby when the other team destroys it. Once the Rainmaker is free, it must be collected by one player, who then must attempt to bring it to a point on the opposing team's side of the map. A checkpoint system was added in Splatoon 3, with a checkpoint at about a quarter of the way to the base from the center. The player holding the Rainmaker must walk upon it to activate the checkpoint. They will lose the Rainmaker (The player will not be splatted because it will not inksplode) and the team must retrieve it again, with the benefit of not having to swim the distance next time it resets. While holding the Rainmaker, the player may charge it and fire an ink tornado from it, but the player will be prevented from Super Jumping due to the weight of the weapon. The Rainmaker doesn't need to be charged fully to shoot an ink tornado, but if it isn't, the tornado will not be very large or travel very far. While holding the Rainmaker, the player can still transform into squid form, but they cannot use their usual Main, Sub, or Special weapons, and will swim very slowly because of the weight. Also, turf inked using the Rainmaker will not fill up the user's Special Gauge. If the Rainmaker is held for too long (60 seconds) it will inksplode in the opposite team's ink, splatting the Inkling holding it as well as any of the same team near by.

Octo Canyon[]

The Rainmaker appears as a Sheldon Request during the final phase of the boss fight against DJ Octavio at the end of Octo Canyon in the Hero Mode of Splatoon 2. After Marie frees Callie from Octavio's control and the Squid Sisters reunite to override Octavio's music again with Calamari Inkantation, Sheldon has his drone deliver a modded Rainmaker to Agent 4 to use against Octavio to finish off his Octobot King II and free the Great Zapfish trapped within. As Sheldon said, the Rainmaker has been modified to not self-destruct after 60 seconds, and is used to send the fists Octavio fires at Agent 4 back at the Octobot King II once they've been drenched in the tornado of ink fired from the Rainmaker. Once the Octobot King II has taken enough damage and is unable to remain airborne, it crashes back down onto the arena below, allowing Agent 4 to finish off Octavio by dunking the Rainmaker on him similar to winning a Rainmaker match, ending the boss fight in victory for Agent 4 with rescuing both Callie and the Great Zapfish from Octavio and his Octarians.
