Snatchers are a type of Salmonid encountered through Salmon Run.
Description[]
These Salmonids are identical to Chums, but instead have a blue mohawk instead of an orange one. During each and every shifts of Salmon Run, whenever Golden Eggs appear, Snatchers are tasked to retrieve them. In Salmon Run: Next Wave, they are outfitted with propeller vehicles similar to the caps of Octocopters and wield nets to increase egg collection rate.
Gameplay[]
When a Boss Salmonid is defeated, it releases three golden eggs. From there, a Snatcher is sent to retrieve those said eggs. The Snatcher will emerge from the sea and will head toward where his assigned eggs are. Once there, it will start an animation in which he looks left and right multiple times and smirks before snatching a first egg, taking around five seconds for a single egg. If another Golden Egg is still lying around, he will go for it, only heading back to the sea once all eggs from that said boss are on him. It will then head back to the sea and, when near it, will, again, do a little animation before diving. From that point the eggs are lost. If a Snatcher is defeated, another will immediately take its place, restarting from the sea. If all its eggs are collected before he could reach them, it will simply head back to the sea. Defeating a Snatcher will make it drop the eggs it has.
During aRush, Snatchers will spawn in larges packs and retrieve golden eggs in bulk. Because of the increased spawn rate for these creatures, it is advisable you collect as many Golden Eggs as you can during Rush waves, otherwise Snatchers will steal them all much faster.
Tips[]
A Snatcher will NEVER even try to collect eggs it has not been tasked to retrieve, nor will it go back to the sea without getting all the uncollected eggs from its assigned Boss Salmonid (aside from during the Goldie Seeking event, on which Snatchers will only retrieve eggs individually (except when the Goldie drops three eggs when it is finally defeated)). This means that if, for example, your team collected 2/3 eggs of a boss and another is defeated next to it, it's better to take the remaining egg instead of one of the three new, as the Snatcher will be slower since it has more eggs to collect at once. Another example is if three players defeat three bosses at once: everyone should take the eggs from a single boss instead of one of each.
Snatchers will make a distinct giggle (which sounds more like a screech) before it picks up an egg. It also appears visibly nervous as it waits and looks around before taking another one. It can collect up to 3 Golden Eggs before needing to return, giving a somewhat long time period where you can hunt down the Snatcher and retrieve the stolen Golden Eggs.
Aside from the ink trail they lay, Snatchers are harmless, not damaging players on contact.
