Sponge Blocks are one of the mechanics in the Hero Mode of Splatoon, Splatoon 2, and Splatoon 3 as well as some multiplayer stages in Splatoon 2 and Splatoon 3.

They expand when hit by player ink, but shrink when hit by Octarians and enemy ink, so be careful when an enemy is around. On multiplayer stages they correspond to the team's ink. If a Sponge Block is of the players team's color, they can swim in it in the players squid/octopus form. They also leave ink of their color beneath them. Players cannot swim on them if they aren't of their ink color, but they can still walk on them and take minimal damage.
