The Squid Sisters (シオカラーズ Shiokarāzu?, lit. Sea O'Colors), are an idol Inkling pop duo based in Inkopolis, consisting of cousins Callie (アオリ Aori?) and Marie (ホタル Hotaru?). They were the former hosts for the Inkopolis News program, which announces events, new DLC and other battle-related news. They used to host and manage Splatfests.
Their voice actors are Keity.pop and Mari Kikuma, respectively. In the Super Smash Bros series, they appear as an assist trophy. They will cause the screen to zoom towards them while singing either Ink Me Up or Calamari Inkantation. Not only that, but the Squid Sisters are a legendary support spirit in said game, which causes the player's Final Smash Meter charges more quickly.
In Hero Mode, it's revealed that the two of them are Cap'n Cuttlefish's granddaughters. They are also Agents One and Two of the New Squidbeak Splatoon. Despite their title being "Squid Sisters", they are actually cousins.

As phase four of the DJ Octavio fight begins, Callie's outfit abruptly changes back to her Splatoon appearance after leaping onto Marie and Sheldon's truck and rejoining Marie, reuniting the Squid Sisters for another round of overriding Octavio's music with Spicy Calamari Inkantation.
She is the final boss in Splatoon 2's Hero Mode alongside DJ Octavio.
Splatoon 3[]
In the third game of the series, Callie is working with the New Squidbeak Splatoon again alongside Marie and the original Agent 3, now promoted to Captain following the Squid Sisters' grandfather's retirement. She sports an outfit similar to her normal stage outfit, but her right tentacle of her hair now drapes in front of her ear instead of being tied back with the other one in the bow on the back of her head. She also sports a bandolier strapped diagonally across her chest, black gloves, and stockings on her legs to stay warm in Alterna's cold climate.

In Splatoon 2, Marie wears a grey kimono with a green belt, with a red knot on her forehead. She also wears tabi socks, and wooden zōri footwear. However, during the final boss fight against DJ Octavio and a brainwashed Callie, Marie will arrive with Sheldon, wearing her Squid Sisters outfit again to help Callie break free of Octavio's brainwashing and rejoin her to beat him for good.
Splatoon 3[]
Marie is working with the New Squidbeak Splatoon once more like in the previous two games, but alongside Callie and the original Agent 3, now promoted to Captain after Cuttlefish retired from the position. Marie still sports an umbrella like in Splatoon 2, and uses it to protect herself if fired at, but now wears a coat similar to her normal stage outfit, black gloves, and stockings on her legs to keep warm in Alterna's cold climate. In Splatoon 3's DLC, both Marie and Callie wear the same outfit as from the first game.
Personality[]
Both Squid Sisters are clever and passionate about not only their music but entertaining their fans. Callie is optimistic and peppy, with the occasional sarcastic remark. This makes her a good foil to Marie, who has more pronounced sarcastic and lazy tendencies.

Callie and Marie were from Calamari County, where they were born and raised. After they won Inkopolis' first annual Youth Folk-Singing Contest, they moved to Inkopolis where they began their career as announcers for Splatfests and musicians.
When first beginning Splatoon's Hero Mode, Cap'n Cuttlefish refers to the player as Agent 3, as they are the third agent of the New Squidbeak Splatoon to fight off the Octarians. He even states that the equipment given to the player is a hand-me-down from the previous two agents. Towards the end of Hero Mode, it is heavily implied that Agents 1 and 2 were in fact Callie and Marie, respectively. Among other clues, Agent 1 almost refers to Agent 2 as "Marie", and the Squid Sisters are seen reporting on the return of the Great Zapfish while pretending not to know how it came back.
After Cuttlefish is kidnapped, the Squid Sisters will serve as the player's mission control until DJ Octavio is defeated. Also, as stated in the Sunken Scrolls and the dialogue for refighting DJ Octavio, Callie and Marie started their career after they won a singing contest.

Splatoon 3[]
Callie and Marie have remained a part of the New Squidbeak Splatoon, but their grandfather, Cap'n Cuttlefish, has retired from being the leader of the group, passing command over to Agent 3 from the first game, though he still takes time to recruit a New Agent 3 from Splatsville to help them deal with DJ Octavio's forces once more when the Great Zapfish disappears again. After DJ Octavio confesses that he's not behind the Great Zapfish's disappearance this time as someone, or something, has kidnapped the Octarian Army to use for their own dark plans, the Squid Sisters and Agent 3 serve as New Agent 3's support team as they investigate The Crater and Alterna to find out who really stole the Great Zapfish and is using the Octarians against them, and creating all the strange Fuzzy Ooze that is appearing around the Splatlands.
Right before New Agent 3 can leave the first island, the Squid Sisters have their first encounter with Deep Cut, who claim that the treasure they are looking for in Alterna is theirs for the taking as the Splatlands are their territory to loot as they see fit. Callie is immediately taken in by them during their introduction, while Marie recognizes them from the Anarchy Splatcast, which Deep Cut says is their day job. After the Squid Sisters acquire the three pieces of treasure Deep Cut was guarding as bosses, and put them together, Captain Agent 3 uses them to take out the Fuzzy Ooze surrounding the Alterna Space Center. Before they can proceed to it, Deep Cut appears again to lay claim to the combined treasure, but Marie tells them they can have it as they don't need it anymore. Initially shocked by this, and suspicious, Deep Cut are so moved by the generosity, that they pledge themselves to Marie as employees in her service, much to her displeasure and Callie's amusement. When the Squid Sisters reach the top of the rocket, they are horrified to find their grandfather in his squid form, all dried out, along with the one responsible for it, Mr. Grizz, CEO of Grizzco Industries, who is preparing to launch his endgame to cover the Earth in Fuzzy Ooze and turn all the Inklings and Octolings into mammals to restore their numbers, having been using the Golden Eggs collected from Salmon Runs to cultivate his Fuzzy Ooze.
After Mr. Grizz departs to carry out his endgame, the Squid Sisters mourn their grandfather's fate, before a single tear from Captain Agent 3 is able to resuscitate him, though he remains in his squid form and unable to return to his human form. With help from Deep Cut, New Agent 3 is sent to stop Mr. Grizz, and when it appears to initially fail, DJ Octavio arrives in his modified Octobot King L3.Gs to lend a hand, refusing to let Mr. Grizz mess with "their" turf. As Octavio begins playing Calamari Inkantation 3MIX, calling it "that heavenly melody", the Squid Sisters and Deep Cut sing it from back on Earth, empowering New Agent 3's Little Buddy, allowing it to transform into Hugefry, serving as a distraction in fighting Mr. Grizz while New Agent 3 and Octavio vacuum up the Fuzzy Ooze on Mr. Grizz to send right back at him using the Octobot King's Ink Vac as a cannon against him. Defeated, Mr. Grizz accepts that life must go on and look toward the future before the rocket explodes, killing him, while Octavio, New Agent 3, and their Little Buddy return to Earth.
When the Squid Sisters are encountered again with Captain Agent 3 and their grandfather, while Cuttlefish is still in his squid form, the cousins are still grateful to New Agent 3 for all they've done. Captain Agent 3 also offers a "Boo-yah!" in silent gratitude.
In the manga series[]
The Squid Sisters first appeared in Volume 1 of the CoroCoro manga Splatoon, hosting and commentating the CoroCoro Cup. From Volume 1 to 3, they commentate all of Team Blue’s matches. In Volume 3, though, they appear as Agent 1 & 2. Since they’re no longer the news anchors in Splatoon 2, they disappear for some time in Volume 4 to 11, replaced by Off the Hook. Later, in Volume 12 both Callie and Marie appear again for the Hero Mode arc as Agent 1 & 2, with them being in the same position as they would be in Splatoon 2

- If the player looks at the Squid Sisters through their window while they are chatting with each other in their Inkopolis Plaza studio, Callie and Marie will stop talking and wave at the player.
- The Squid Sisters' puns are all squid based.
- In Octo Canyon, when the player tries to shoot Marie, she will block the ink with her umbrella (the same way as using a Splat Brella) and shake it off afterwards.
- This also happens in Return of the Mammalians.
- Callie and Marie's names are, when combined, wordplay on "calamari". Their names in different localizations of the game tend to be based on different puns.
- Marie realizes this if the player fights the final boss of Splatoon 2 for the second time. When Callie leaps onto Marie and Sheldon's truck before phase four of the final boss, her outfit abruptly changes from her octopus-themed costume to her original Splatoon appearance.
- In the French version of the game, Callie and Marie's names are Ayo and Oly, respectively. These names together are a pun on aioli, a sauce often served with seafood, and possibly a pun on Aori-ika, the Japanese name for the Bigfin Reef Squid.
- Their given names in Japanese are derived from real-world species: "Aori-ika" or bigfin reef squid, and "Hotaru-ika" or firefly squid.
- Their Spanish names are Mar and Tina. Mar is a Spanish given name and it means Sea, while Tina is a Spanish given name and it's also the word for tub. Also, their names make the word "Martina", a Spanish given name.
- The band's name in Spanish, Calamarciñas is a pun on Calamar (Squid) and Niñas (Girls) and it could be translated as "Squid Girls".
