The Crater (aクレーター kurētā?, lit. Crater), is a location in the Splatlands and the tutorial world of Return of the Mammalians in Splatoon 3. It consists of 4 Kettles, Camp Cuttle, a Kettle to return to Splatsville and a large structure leading to Alterna.
Layout[]
Starting at the top of a massive crater, a metal walkway circles round clockwise to the bottom. Camp Cuttle is situated at the top, where the player will find Craig Cuttlefish who introduces them to the story mode, and consisting of a single tent where the player can customize the look of the Captain.
The walkway going down is covered in Fuzzy Ooze that the player must remove using Little Buddy and Power Eggs in order to progress. There are four stages along the way before reaching the very bottom of the crater and the boss fight.
Customizing the Captain[]
By interacting with the drawing in Camp Cuttle's tent, the player can change the look of the Captain. This can be done at any time, even after the player has met the Captain later in the game.
To keep consistency, the options are limited to those from the first game:
- Hairstyle
- Skin tone
- Eye color
If no Splatoon 2 save file was imported, or a save file is imported without Octo Expansion data, the Captain will always use the female hairstyle and green eyes by default.
Stages[]
The Crater is made up of four stages, where the goal is to retrieve the Zapfish at the end of the stage, and one boss battle:
Boss. Octobot King L3.Gs
Collectables[]
Loot anchor[]
Trivia[]
- Craig Cuttlefish’s dialogue at the beginning of the mode is a reference to the very first game.
- The player can return to the Crater at any time by simply interacting with the Zapfish doll at the Squid Sisters Camp on the first site, Future Utopia Island.
- If the player imported their Splatoon 2 save file and have customized the original Agent 3 (referred to as "Captain" in Splatoon 3) in Octo Expansion, their customization will be carried over into the campaign. However, it can then be changed if desired.
- The Captain's portrait in Camp Cuttlefish is the same one that Craig drew in the Octo Expansion.
