So...horizontal or vertical? It's always up to you, Agent 3. No strings attached!

The String's the Thing is the ninth stage of Future Utopia Island. This level serves as an introduction of sorts to the Stringer class of weapons, and more specifically the Tri-Stringer.

Walkthrough[]

Use the Tri-Stringer to shoot the three horizontally-aligned Splat Switches. You don't have to shoot them all in one shot, but the Tri-Stringer is capable of doing so. The wall will move out of the way, revealing another wall with three vertically-aligned Splat Switches. You can hit these three in a single shot by shooting while jumping. Now you can move forward to find some stacked boxes; defeat the three Octotroopers hidden behind them and keep going. Three more Octotroopers will spawn behind the row of trees, these ones will move left to right; defeat them and keep going. Go up the steps, pass the stacked boxes, and there will be three more Octotroopers between some pillars for you to defeat. Then, another set of three Octotroopers will be up a slope and some steps, between you and the Launchpad that will take you to the first checkpoint.

Straight ahead will be a ring of Power Eggs that you can use a fully charged shot to collect in one go. Around the wall on your right will be a box with a briefcase. Down below will be five Octotroopers, you can pick them off from above or go down and fight them. Then just behind them, three Octocopters will spawn; there is a wall right behind them so you can take them out with a single charged shot. Once they are all defeated, a Launchpad will appear that takes you to the second checkpoint.

Go up the slope, defeat the five Octotroopers in the way; three on the ground ahead, and one on either side on pillars. An Octocopter will then spawn between two stacks of boxes, defeat it. Up another small slope, four Shielded Octotroopers will spawn. They are raised off of the ground, making it harder for you to hit them, however there are moving walls behind them which you can fire fully charged shots at and your delayed projectiles will splat them from behind. Once they are all defeated, a wall will move, revealing the goal.
