The Torpedo is a Sub Weapon in Splatoon 2 and Splatoon 3 that acts a bit differently than the other ones. They have a homing ability (although only moving in one direction once targeting), and when they come in contact, burst into ink pellets that also explode on contact.

Appearance[]

The torpedo is noticeably shaped like a fish. The player can notice the texture on it's base, and can see the eyes near the front. Thanks to the textures, the base also has visible eyes, scales, and gills. There are also fins on it. On the front, it closes into a little cap with a little pointer which will always face the targeted player. On the back, is a caudal fin that is also seems to resemble a knob for wind-up toys is there too, possibly to make it move.

Description[]

When a player is targeted, the projectile will face the player and will also light up. The player can tell if they are targeted by the warning by them that looks like the same warning used for Tenta Missiles. The torpedo will close in on the player (although in one direction, can't turn) until it hits, with it's caudal fin/wind-up knob also spinning. Then, the sub weapon will explode, and also leave ink droplets everywhere near it, which will also explode. Note that enemies can still stop the projectile by inking it, which then breaks.

When a Torpedo is thrown and an enemy isn't around, it will just drop on the floor and make a small explosion the size of a burst bomb.

Strategy[]

Using[]

  • This weapon will do nicely against Charger main weapons, as they will have to sacrifice their full charge in order to break the sub weapon.
    • Repeatingly thowing this at Chargers can distract them while the player can progress towards them, without even fearing getting shot at.

Countering[]

  • The player attacked must always remember that they can always break this; they don't need to fear.
    • If the player can't attack, as they have to fend off enemies they can just escape.

    • The caudal fin on the back resembles a wind-up knob to turn on toys. Something that pushes it further is that how it spins intensely when homing in on enemies.
    • The nose part of the Torpedo references popular Japanese style soy sauce containers.
